Why Buy A Round Coffee Table Or A Small Coffee Table?

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

When looking for a small coffee table or a round coffee table you need to first decide what the table is to be used for. Another consideration is where you will be placing your table and what size is your home and lastly what size is your budget. Finding the right piece of furniture to fill an empty space in a small room, and still be functional, a round coffee table or a small coffee table may be what you are looking for.

If you require the table to be a functional piece of furniture you will need it to be big enough to provide a place for coffee cups, bottles or snacks for every member of your family. A small coffee table or a round coffee table may not be big enough and you should consider a long rectangular table or two small square coffee tables. This decision of course rests on how many family members you have.

A round coffee table or a small coffee table may fit nicely into the junction of an ‘L’-shaped sofa, but it can also fit neatly near a wall and serve as an end table, depending on its size.

How Else Can You Benefit From Your Coffee Table?

There are other ways to benefit from your small coffee table or your round coffee table apart from providing a place to put your drink. They can be used to place a lamp or even used for card games. Children also benefit from a small coffee table and also round coffee tables as they can use them as a meal table or a games table as they are low.

The size, color and material of your small coffee table can be almost anything you desire. It can be made from wood, glass or metal and in any size. A large round coffee table would be best suited to a large room. Whether made of steel, plastic or wood a round coffee table or a small coffee table may also be fitted with a drawer or shelf underneath it, to hold magazines or childrens’ games such as cards, tiddlywinks and dominos. These tables can also be used to display a clock or an ornament, the list is endless.

Kitchen Table - Transform An Old One Into A Craft Table

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

f you have been thinking of getting rid of your old kitchen table for a new one, have you thought of what will be happening to the old kitchen table?

Many people roll it out to the side of the road and wait for the garbage truck. But, if your old kitchen table is still in good working order, why not give it a new life? If you have kids, you can turn this old kitchen table into a great new craft table.

The first thing to consider is the kinds of crafts your kids like and what they need to complete those crafts. Often the popular items are crayons, markers, pencils, paints, scissors, paper, stickers, glitter and other small pieces to add to their creations. Each of these items need containers to keep them sorted.

If you are like most of people, right now when it’s craft time, you put a protective covering over the kitchen table and then pull out a number of bins of crafting items. But, when you turn your old kitchen table into a craft table, those bins can already be in place, attached to the old kitchen table.

You should start with a series of pencil/pen/crayon holders. It would be best if these are rounded (cup-like) holders at varying sizes to hold these drawing implements. Some are sold in attached sets and will save you a little time in collecting all the proper pieces.

Instead of having to pull this out every time the kids want to create something, you are going to attach this bin to the old kitchen table.

Usually, this bin is put in the center of the kitchen table.

Tack it down with one screw through the bin and into the wood of the table. Since you likely will not be able to get your electric screwdriver to reach far enough into the bin, you may want to use your electric drill to make a hold in the plastic container (from the bottom) and into the kitchen table where you want it to set. Line the two holes up and use a long regular screwdriver to attach the bin to the table.

If you are using an electric screwdriver, take on this job slowly, as you can crack the plastic of the bins easily.

If the table is extra wide, you may want to choose one side of the table to attach the bin, so the kids can still reach the coloring items.

If you have more craft bins you would like to keep on the table, these should be attached in the same manner.

Once all the bins are on the kitchen table you can call the job complete, or take it to another level of personalization and turn it into your next craft project – painting. It’s fun for kids to have a craft table they helped to create. Using bright paints, the table can be painted and each child can be allowed to add their personal touches such as painted pictures, their name or even a handprint.

Playing Table Tennis Table Outdoors

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Table tennis is normally played indoors. This is to create a controlled environment that is favorable for both players. But during the summer, those who still want to play the game can do this outside.

Those who don’t have a table should probably get the model that can be used both for indoors and outdoors. Such models are usually water and rust proof so that it won’t be damaged when it gets wet.

These usually come with wheels and are collapsible in the center making it easy to assemble and disassemble after a few games. People who play the game often can even get a small tarp so protect it from dust while it is in storage.

The most important thing to check when looking for a table is how well does a ball bounce on the surface. Studies show there is a big difference perhaps because of the coating and those only those who are serious about the game will notice the difference.

Tables made of metal makes the balls bounce a little slower than those made of wood. The same thing can be noticed among the different brands being sold in the market, which is why only one that is up to standard is used in major competitions.

If the weather is hot inside the house, perhaps it is time to move the table outdoors. A good game can be played on concrete and not on grass because of the uneven surface.

Does the game always have to be played using a standardized table? The answer is no. After all, people are only doing it to have fun so it is not always necessary to use the 9 x 5 foot model.

The person should just make sure that the net is placed in the middle of the court. The same rules apply regardless of the length of the table. The player will just have to get used to playing on a longer or a shorter playing area than the original one.

Before playing the game, both sides should get if the lock for the net has been securely fastened. A similar one should also be secured on the ground so that it will not move when exchanging volleys with one another.

A rust and waterproof table tennis table can be purchased at the sporting goods store or online. A basic model is a little over $100 but those who want the whole nine yards will have to shell out more than $700.

The tables are easy to assemble. Someone from the store can deliver this to the home and assemble it or this can be done by the new owner.

The best way to make sure it is in good condition all the time is to wipe it using a cloth before and after playing. The hinges and the wheels should be oiled from time to time making it easy to set up. Lastly, this should be stored in a cool and dry place to prevent it from bumps and scratches.

Table tennis is an interesting sport. The person should just buy the balls, the paddles and the net separately or save a few dollars since some models are sold in sets. The biggest investment will be the table but when everything is ready, it is time to have some fun.

Which Choice Is Right For You - An American Pool Table Or An English Billiards Table

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

the question comes up about which is the best type to purchase. The main question usually comes down to deciding between American pool tables and the British style which are more commonly known as billiard pool table. There are a few differences between the two that anyone considering investing in a pool table should be aware of before making an outlay of thousands of dollars.

The main difference between American tables and the British version is their size and also of the pool balls that are used with them. Some might say that the English tables are actually a smaller cousin of the American tables. The English pool tables were first introduced to the British pubs a little more than forty years ago in the 1960’s. Because of the more compact spaces in most gamerooms and lounges in Europe as opposed to the available space in America, the tables needed to be a bit smaller in order to be able to fit them into the pubs of the day.

The standard sized American pool tables are generally nine feet in length and four-and-a-half feet wide. This is compared to the regulation size of the English tables which measure seven feet in length by three-and-a-half feet in width. There are also English pool tables that are six feet long and eight feet long, with their width being half of the length.

Because of the difference in size of the standard American pool tables versus the English tables, some of the pool table accessories are also accordingly sized differently as well. This is important because the amount of playing area is reduced considerably on the English tables which affects the play.

On American tables there is more room for the balls to spread out and this reduces the occurrence of balls “clumping” which can make it more difficult to get a nice clean shot at a pocket. At the same time, with a table that is two feet longer than its English counterpart, there are many more instances of long shots that need to be made. Such longer shots are particularly challenging for beginners and often a game can become very drawn out when players are chasing the last couple balls around the table.

To help ease the problem with space on the felt, the pool balls that are used with the English tables are smaller with a diameter of two inches. This compares to the balls used on American tables which are two-and-a-quarter inches in diameter. Of course, the pockets that are built into the American style tables are comparatively larger as well in order to accommodate the larger size of the pool balls.

Another difference that you will find between playing on American tables as opposed to English pool tables is in the pool cue sticks that are used. The English pool cues use a smaller cue tip which measures eight to nine mm across. The typical cue tips that American pool players are accustomed to using on their cue sticks are 12 to 13 mm.

Christmas Table Decorations - The Number One Secret For Beautiful Table Decor

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

ecorating your table for Christmas can be as simple or as elaborate as you want to make it. But, there is one primary secret to Christmas table decorations you should always follow.

By adhering to this simple secret it will make your table décor far more appealing while at the same time making your job easier. By ignoring this concept your table-decorating plan can completely fall apart.

So what’s the secret? Well it’s simple. All you have to do is decide upon a specific color theme and design theme, then stick to it.

Let me explain…

Do you want a particular color or colors? People, who especially love Christmas, still rely on the old stand-bys. I will admit that red, green, white, gold and silver are still my favorites and probably always will be.

Perhaps you’re in the mood for a wintery look. Simple. Just use white, blue, light shades of purple and you’re on your way. Along with candles you can add ornamental snowflakes, little snowmen, or strands of clear beads or snowy white garlands.

If you have a color scheme in your home that you would like to play off of, then that can make it even simpler. You can always find candles, ribbons, napkins, beads, etc. online or at the store. Add touches of winter greenery or tiny Christmas trees to solidify the look.

A Christmas wreath laid in the center of the table can be the beginning of a perfect centerpiece. It can be decorated with any object you may want to use as a theme. If you have no theme in mind other than something special, then ribbons and bows can always come to the rescue. Inside the wreath, place a large candle or several tapers. The tapers can be the same height or differing heights. The choice is yours. Just make certain that the flames or hot wax do not come in contact with anything that could cause a fire. I was at a dinner party once where that happened. We certainly had a lively Christmas party that night!

Hurricane lanterns placed in a row down the center of the table can take the place of a traditional centerpiece. Stemware filled with beads, nuts, berries, glass marbles, or any small festive objects can be used as well. You can use themed pieces to decorate in between. We’ll use Christmas bells as our example of a theme. Bells can be purchased in packages or they can be purchased already strung on wire. If they are on wire, they can be wrapped around the base of the hurricane lanterns, or you can attach them to ribbon and wrap the ribbon around the lanterns. Long strands of ribbon and beads can flow around the decorations.

Continue to carry out your theme with your table napkins. Use two napkins of different colors for each place setting. Place one napkin on top of the other. You can roll them separately or roll them together, but the important thing is to tie them together. Tie them with a beautiful wired ribbon with the bell attached to the ribbon. Because wired ribbon can be shaped, it is easy to make the perfect size napkin holder. With your napkins inside your ribbon napkin holder, artfully arrange them and place them in the center of each plate. You now have bells on your napkin holders and bells on your table decorations. You can continue the theme with bells tied to the backs of chairs, hanging from the chandelier or attached to your stemware.

The idea is to repeat your color or decoration. By using a theme, your Christmas table decorations will go from ho-hum to spectacular! Happy decorating.

Table Talk Made Easy With Amish Dining Room Furniture

Monday, May 19th, 2008

The Amish are known for their strong family values, dedication to hard work, and for their ability to produce high-quality furniture. The men work in the fields or the workshop all day. The women perform the household work and look after the children. The kids study their lessons and learn reading, writing, and arithmetic. And at the end of every day, the families gather around their dining tables to spend quality time together, share their day’s experiences, and to discuss their plans for tomorrow. It is at the dinner table that the family unit functions as a whole and the family bond strengthens.

The majority of us, however, do not live like the Amish. Life is busy and hectic and families spend most of their time spread thinly amongst various activities. While the adults spend their days working in various “fields” and the children’s days are spent in the classrooms, actually getting a family together for an evening meal can prove to be very difficult. Dad has a late-night meeting. Mom has PTA. Little Bobby has football practice and Sweet Suzy has dance lessons. With such busy lives, family dinners are usually reserved for holidays and special occasions and are rarely considered the norm. This is a shame because the family who eats together, grows together.

Perhaps just the right Amish dining room furniture can help to encourage families to come together at mealtime more often. It may sound crazy and materialistic, but an attractive and high-quality piece of Amish furniture, large enough for the entire family to gather around, can make dinner less of a necessity and more of an event. Children can talk freely about their days at school, keeping mom and dad abreast of what is going on their lives. (This can be especially important during the teen years.) Mom and dad can involve the kids in vacation planning, scheduling chores and other tasks, and in keeping everyone informed of breaking family news. Think of it as an informal family meeting.

No one said that dinner had to be made from scratch, taking hours to prepare. Macaroni and cheese dinner or delivery pizza can be just as easily enjoyed together as a family as can a dinner of spaghetti with homemade sauce and meatballs. This is about the quality of the furniture and the time spent with family, not necessarily the quality of the food being served. It has been said that children will not remember how the meal was prepared, but will remember with whom they spent the meal.

Dining tables are not just for mealtime anymore. They can be a central gathering place for activities such as puzzles and games, baking cookies and treats, and hosting friends. Round dining room tables are perfect for seating the entire family around a game of Monopoly or Trivial Pursuit. The long rectangular tables are well suited for rolling out cookies or assembling gingerbread houses. These activities themselves can promote quality family time, but having a large and functional area in which to gather can help encourage that family time more often. What better place to make family memories than around the dining room table?

Amish dining room furniture is an heirloom to be passed down from parents to children to grandchildren. Most furniture on the market today is not made to last multiple generations. Much of the modern furniture is made of cheap laminates and veneers. It is not made to withstand the wear and tear doled out by families on a daily basis. Laminates become discolored or stained. The veneers peel at the first contact with water (or milk, or soda, or any other liquid). The glue securing the legs of dad’s armchair weakens until dad is sitting in a rocking chair. No one should allow poorly crafted furniture ruin or discourage a good family dinner and the quality family time that goes with it.

Parents who pass Amish dining room furniture along to their children and grandchildren are not just passing material possessions or simply tables and chairs. They are also passing all of the memories that go with them. While many of the memories will be of the meals enjoyed or the games played at the table, many of these memories will be of the gift-givers themselves. The furniture will be a pleasant reminder of the parents or grandparents from whom the heirlooms came and all of the wonderful experiences had with those people – not just the ones created around the table.

Amish dining tables come in many sizes to fit any family and the extended family. Imagine a holiday feast where all family members are seated at one table - where there is no such thing as a kid’s table. One can purchase a dining room table ranging in size from 36 inches up to 19 feet. Many tables are expandable with extra leafs so that they are the perfect for both daily meals as well as special occasions with lots of guests. Round dining room tables are also available in sizes up to 54 inches. They also come in drop-leaf styles and can be expanded into oval tables with the addition of a leaf or two.

It’s not necessary to be Amish to enjoy and respect the values for which they are known. Much emphasis is put on quality. This quality can be seen in the furniture they produce as well as the time they spend as a family. Anyone can bring some of this distinction home with finely crafted Amish furniture. Family time is important and what kids learn now will be passed down for generations to come. There is no better place for them to learn than around the dining room table. That memory made of wood, also known as a table, should be one worth handing down.
